The Philippine National Police Academy (Akademiyang Pampulisya ng Pilipinas) or PNPA, is a public safety school whose graduates are assigned as officers of the Philippine National Police (PNP), Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) and the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP). PNPA was established on August 26, 1977, by the virtue of Section 19, PD 1184 and was tasked to provide tertiary level education to Filipinos aspiring to be officers in the three bureaus of the Department of the Interior and Local Government.
PNPA HISTORY
Presidential Decree 1184 known as the Integrated National Police Personnel Professionalization Act of 1977 provides the first mention of the PNPA as a service training institution for police and fire personnel under the then Integrated National Police (INP) Service.

Presidential Decree 1780 (Providing the Philippine National Police Academy with an Academic Charter and Expanding its Curricular Programs), the PNPA was provided with its own academic charter in order to enhance and professionalize the Integrated National Police. It was this law that termed the PNPA as the premier educational institution of the INP responsible for the development, conduct and administration of the Cadetship Program of the Integrated National Police, with the view of providing the preparatory education necessary for the development of potential officers imbued with the professional competence and management leadership qualities and skills compatible with the dynamic role of the Integrated National Police in public safety and social defense.

Republic Act 6975 otherwise known as DILG Act of 1990 provides for organizational changes in the PNPA and other service training institution in the country. Under this law, the PNPA was transferred to the Philippine Public Safety College (PPSC). Meanwhile RA 8551 (Philippine National Police Reform and Reorganization Act of 1998) recognizes the role of the PNPA graduates in terms of qualification standard of Chief of City and Municipal Police stations in the country. It likewise recognizes the PNPA’s role in the promotional standard among qualified uniformed members of the PNPA.

Republic Act 11279, an amendatory law of RA 6975, the PNPA organizational control and management was transferred from the Philippine Public Safety College (PPSC) to the Philippine National Police (PNP). This law recognizes the PNPA as the premier institution for police education and the primary source for commissionship of police lieutenants. The said law allows the transition of five (5) years from its effectivity to continuously accommodate cadets of the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) and the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) until such time that separate academies will be provided for the said bureaus

Presidential Decree No. 1780 was enacted granting Academic Charter to PNPA elevating its status into a state university and as the premier educational institution of the country’s national police force.
August 7, 1980
Conferred the BSPS degree to forty-five (45) INP officers of Special Public Safety Course “Maharlika” Class of 1980.
August 19, 1978
PNPA moved from INP Training Command Headquarters, Fort Bonifacio, Makati to Camp Vicente Lim, Calamba, Laguna.
June 30, 1978
Fifty (50) police cadets were admitted to compose the pioneer Maharlika Class of 1980 and inducted into the Corps of Cadets, Integrated National Police through a formal ceremony.
June 12, 1978
PNPA was formally organized and activated pursuant to Department of National Defense Order No. 83 issued on May 25, 1978.
August 26, 1977
PNPA was created as a police and fire service training institution with the enactments of Presidential Decree No. 1184.
December 14, 1990
RA 6975 transferred the administration of PNPA from the Philippine National Police (PNP) to the Philippine Public Safety College, to ensure the overall capability for the training, human resource development and continuing education of all personnel of the Philippine National Police, Bureau of Fire Protection and Bureau of Jail Management and Penology.
May 1, 1993
Admitted female cadet in the cadetship program in consonance with the RA 7192 (The Women in Development and National Building) and on 06 April 1995 – PNPA had its first woman graduate.
APRIL 13, 1994
PNPA Transferred to its permanent home, Camp Castañeda, Silang, Cavite.
MAY 1, 2001
Members of BSPS TAGAPAGSANGGALANG Class of 2004 were the first cadets to undergo the four-year cadetship program of the academy.

April 12, 2019
President Rodrigo Duterte signed RA 11279 transferring the supervision and control of PNPA from PPSC to PNP under the Office of the Chief PNP and still be allowed to accommodate BFP and BJMP cadets during the 5-year transition period.
